A leading young artist of today, violinist Harumi Rhodes has been performing extensively with some of the most prestigious musicians worldwide. Acclaimed by the New York Times as a "deeply expressive violinist," Harumi has recently completed her residency at Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society II. As a chamber musician, Harumi has performed as a guest artist with the Boston, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, and Seattle Chamber Music Societies. As a soloist, this season's engagements include performances at the Vermont Mozart Festival featuring Beethoven's Violin Concerto and Romances, Mozart's Adagio and Rondo, and Vivaldi's "Four Seasons."
Harumi is a founding member of TRIO CAVATINA, with pianist, Ieva Jokubaviciute and cellist, Priscilla Lee. This season's highlights include a European debut in Vilnius, Lithuania as well as performances with Musicians from Marlboro in New York City’s Metropolitan Museum, Washington D.C's Freer Gallery, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, and Boston’s Isabella Gardner Museum. Working closely with composer Leon Kirchner, the Trio performed his Trio No. 2 on the Alexander Schneider Series at the New School, the Young Artists Series at Merkin Hall, the Emerging Artists Series at Kneisel Hall, and New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall.
As an avid supporter of contemporary music, Harumi was given the honor of having a solo violin sonata dedicated to her by composer Benjamin Lees after a recent collaboration at the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society. In addition, Harumi led the first recording of Milton Babbitt's Sixth String Quartet on John Zorn's Tzadik Composers Series Label. Harumi has also performed on the Making Music Series at Carnegie Hall featuring composers George Benjamin and George Perle. Harumi received degrees from the Juilliard School studying with Ronald Copes and Earl Carylss, and the New England Conservatory studying with Donald Weilerstein where she graduated with the highest honor as a recipient of the Gunther Schuller Award.
