CD Review

Borodin: String Quartets No. 1 and No.2 Arabesque
Z6658
Now you too can own the Borodin string quartets on a single compact disc, and with but two to his name, the complete string quartets of Alexander Borodin should be owned by everyone. The second, whose familiar Notturno features Borodin’s most well-known melody, is beautifully played by the Lark, America’s finest all-female quartet….dance and sing to this fine playing.
Musician-October 1995

Though Borodin’s unusual place in the repertoire makes him an intriguing choice for the Lark Quartet’s first recording for Arabesque, it does offer the young quartet a chance to show off some of the best elements of its playing. The Lark manages to grasp the melodic richness of individual lines without ever letting the collective musical intensity suffer.
